Swift County Jail Roster
The official current custody source is the Swift County LETG In Custody roster. It is a public list, not a search form. The roster displayed five current in-custody entries when inspected on June 18, 2026, and it shows a timestamp at the top of the page. That timestamp matters because a booking record can change after intake, bond review, a court hearing, a release, or a transfer. The Swift County Sheriff's Office operates the jail from the Law Enforcement Center in Benson and is responsible for jail administration, dispatch, court security, prisoner transportation, civil process, and arrest warrants issued by the court.
Swift County inmate records on the roster cover local jail custody. That means pretrial detainees, people serving short local sentences, court holds, arrest and detention holds, and people being moved for court or transport by the sheriff. The roster does not replace Minnesota Court Records Online, the BCA criminal-history search, the Minnesota Department of Corrections Public Viewer, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator, ICE ODLS, or Minnesota VINELink. Each system covers a different stage of custody or a different agency.
The county roster is still the fastest first check when the question is simple: is the person in the Swift County Jail right now? If the person is not listed, the next step depends on the facts. A new arrest may not have posted yet. A released person may have dropped from the current custody list. A sentenced felon may have moved into MNDOC custody. A federal or immigration hold may need a federal locator instead of the Swift County roster.
The roster screenshot in the project manifest came from the public LETG page. The Swift County in-custody roster image below shows why the page should be read as a current custody list rather than a full archive.
The visible columns include photo, MNI, name, sex, age, booking number, intake date, charges, and bail or bond data, but not housing, arresting agency, court date, release date, or full personal history.
Use Swift County Inmate Records
The Swift County jail roster has no county-provided name box, date picker, facility filter, reset button, export tool, or profile link. It is a compact list. Use the browser find function to scan by last name, or review each visible entry if the list is short. The roster entries expand inline, so the charge and bond lines appear on the same page instead of behind a separate inmate profile.
- Open the Swift County LETG In Custody roster and check the timestamp before relying on the list.
- Use browser find for the last name, first name, MNI, or booking number when those facts are known.
- Read each matching entry as a whole because multiple charge rows, case numbers, holds, and bond lines may be grouped under one booking.
- Call Swift County Jail at 320-843-3133 before posting bond, scheduling a visit, sending money, or assuming a hold has cleared.
- If the person is sentenced to state prison or supervision, search the MNDOC Public Viewer instead of the county roster.
This workflow keeps the roster in its correct lane. It confirms current jail custody, then routes court status, conviction history, state prison custody, federal custody, and custody notifications to the public systems built for those topics.
Swift County Roster Fields
Swift County inmate records are list-only online. The fields below are not search boxes; they are the visible public columns and lines a reader can use to identify a person and understand the booking. The absence of search controls is a useful fact. It means the roster is simple, free, and direct, but also limited when a name is common or when the person has already been released.

Swift County Inmate Profile Data
The public Swift County roster gives enough data to identify current custody and read the booking snapshot, but it is not a full jail file. It does not show date of birth, address, race, height, weight, housing unit, medical status, visitor logs, release date, or a full court docket. Minnesota law and county policy classify many jail records as private or confidential depending on the record type and case status.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Photo | A current booking-photo thumbnail when listed on the roster. |
| MNI | The master name index tied to local justice records. |
| Name | The inmate name as published by LETG for current custody. |
| Booking Number | The numeric jail event number for the intake. |
| Intake Date | The booking or intake date and time. |
| Charges | Severity, custody status, statute citation, case number when present, and plain-English charge text. |

County, State, Federal Custody
Many failed inmate searches happen because the wrong system is used. Swift County inmate records from the sheriff roster cover local jail custody. A felony sentence to the Commissioner of Corrections moves the person into the MNDOC system after commitment, and MNDOC warns that newly sentenced people may take several business days to appear. Federal prisoners use BOP tools. Immigration custody uses ICE ODLS. VINELink is a notification channel, not the official jail record.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Swift County jail custody | LETG In Custody roster | Current local jail bookings, charges, photos, and bond lines. |
| Minnesota prison or supervision | MNDOC Public Viewer | Adults committed to MNDOC who remain under DOC jurisdiction. |
| Federal custody | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal prisoners and some federal detainees. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | ICE detainees searched by A-number or biographical fields. |
| Custody alerts | Minnesota VINELink | Notification signup and custody-status alerts where available. |

Swift County Jail Facilities
Swift County has one active local adult detention facility: Swift County Jail in Benson. Prairie Correctional Facility is also physically in Swift County, but it is a CoreCivic, contract-dependent medium-security facility in Appleton, not the sheriff's jail. It should not be used to search routine Swift County arrestees unless an official source later confirms a relevant federal or immigration custody placement.

Booking Process in Swift County
Swift County does not publish a detailed booking manual, so the safest description comes from the roster, the sheriff's duties, and Minnesota jail standards. A person is arrested by the sheriff, a city agency, or another law-enforcement agency, then brought to Swift County Jail for intake. Booking can include identity checks, property inventory, fingerprints, photo, safety and medical screening, assignment of a booking number, entry of charges or warrants, and placement in secure housing when detention continues.
The public roster confirms that intake date and time, booking number, charge rows, case numbers in some entries, and bond or hold status can be published. Minnesota correctional-facility law and Rule 2911 require inspection, minimum standards, custody staffing, screening, suicide prevention plans, medication verification, well-being checks, and discharge planning. Those standards explain the jail process without inventing a local timeline. If a person is absent from the roster shortly after an arrest, call the jail and check Minnesota Court Records Online after charges are filed.
Swift County Jail Visits
No official Swift County jail visitation schedule, video visitation schedule, commissary page, or deposit fee table was located in the sheriff research. Do not assume a day, hour, vendor, or payment method from another Minnesota jail. The county contact page gives the Law Enforcement Center address, and the court page gives courthouse business hours and parking, but courthouse hours are not the same as jail visitation approval.

Older Swift County Jail Records
Released people may disappear from the current roster. Older booking records, copies, and records not posted online route through Swift County's public data process. The county Data Requests page explains that Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13 presumes government data is public unless a state or federal law classifies it otherwise. The public may inspect public data free before deciding whether to request copies, and copy charges may apply under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
Swift County lists the County Responsible Authority as the Swift County Attorney, 211 11th St. N, Benson, MN 56215, phone 320-843-2134. For jail-specific questions, start with the sheriff or jail phone first, then use the county data request process when a copy or formal response is needed. The county data-practices inventory flags bail evaluations, adult case files, juvenile files, warrant requests, inmate medical records, visitor logs, and classification records as limited or nonpublic in many settings.
Note: Confirm custody with Swift County Jail before posting bond, traveling for a visit, or sending money.
